The story, The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers, is one of the more influential horror stories in media. This story most notably inspired stories by H.P. Lovecraft. Stories that focus on a more eldritch kind of horror, such as The King in Yellow or House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, are my favorite type of horror media. When using these examples for inspiration in a visual medium such as photography, it can be a challenge to express the horrors of something that is supposed to be indescribable. I took this as my own personal challenge, to try and convey the uncanny and uncomfortable within my images. I wanted to not give away too much information about the horrors at hand, while also keeping up the mystery that expresses itself within this type of media. I wanted to let the viewer truly work to get the full picture of the story.
